One
of the hardiest palm trees on record. Native to the
Himalayan mountains it is hardy to 5 F. In hot climates
it prefers a shady spot. It does best in well-drained
soils with above average fertility. Adequate moisture
makes for rapid growth. It has no barbs or spines, fits well into small areas and grows well in containers. A very likable palm. Windmill Palm is a slender-trunked tree with large, deeply divided fan-shaped leaves up to 3 feet across. Individuals grown in full sun and/or under poor conditions may have a much smaller crown. The trunk is covered with persistent brown, burlap-like fibers, and is often narrower at the base than at the top. This tree is easy to grow. It is most effective in clumps where the individual trees vary in height. |
