Wax Myrtle is a large shrub or small tree, native to
east and east-central Texas. It is often multi-trunked.
Its foliage is aromatic and gray-green; female plants
bear clusters of blue-gray fruits. Pioneers used the
leaves and fruit to make bayberry candles. Southern Wax Myrtle makes an effective and attractive tall screen. It prefers moist, acid soils but is adaptable to other conditions, including wet sites with poor drainage. |
