Pygmy Date Palm is native to Burma, Laos and
Vietnam. It is hardy to around 24 F, and even lower if
temperatures are brief and day temperatures warm up above
the freezing mark. However, with our warming climate the
probability of experiencing such a severe winter freeze has diminished. A small palm with graceful arching to slightly drooping feathery leaves up to to 5 feet in length, and gray green in color. Old petioles linger for long periods and should be removed as they turn yellow. |

Pygmy Date Palm makes an excellent container plant. It can be grown as an indoor specimen if it can be given light of high intensity. When grown in clumps it makes an especially attractive specimen with the trunks tending to curve gracefully away from the center of the clump. | |
