The Mexican
Fan Palm's Latin name
was chosen to honor George Washington, the first President of the United
States. It is native to the desert mountain valleys and canyons of
Sonora and Baja Mexico, and is hardy to 20 F.
A slender fast-growing, robust tree with bright green fan-shaped leaves. The older leaves persist and clothe the trunk. Adaptable to various soil conditions, this palm is picturesque as a street tree, formal groupings, and groves in large open areas. Young plants can be grown in containers and give a tropical look to patios and decks. This palm should only be used in large open areas - it is a not a good palm for small yards. |
