| Flowering Dogwood
blooms from late March until early May in the woodlands
of east Texas, where it grows on well-drained, sandy,
acid soils. It has multi-season interest: four-part white bracts around tiny greenish-yellow flowers, dark green summer foliage, red summer/fall fruit, red to maroon fall color, and a graceful horizontal branching pattern. When it is grown outside its native environment, it must be planted in a raised, amended bed, and shielded from the harsh afternoon sun.
