Torenia
"Suzie Wong"
(Torenia
baillonii) Few plants can equal the bright color and dazzling impact of Suzie Wong. A bright-eyed plant for the shade bed, a pot or hanging basket under the eaves or porch. Dense, compact, trailing 6 to 8-inch plants are covered with a mass of 1-inch blooms of unusual appearance. Bright golden yellow flowers with contrasting mahogany centers. The 4 golden-yellow petals are held upwards around a wide, deep purple throat so dark it looks entirely black! |

Wishbone Flower (Torenia species) Colors include white, white with blue or red cheeks, and light blue with deep blue cheeks. Habit is mounding -- growing a foot tall and wide. Originally from Vietnam, it's a heat lover. Flower production increases with rising temperatures. Produces seed, but not obnoxiously, that may sprout by mid-summer the next year. Grows in shady to partly sunny locations, but must be protected from mid/late afternoon sun. An excellent bedding plant. |
