Purslane (Purslane oleracea)
Heat tolerant plant with flowers in shades of pink, lavender, white, yellow or orange. Flowers last only one day but are quickly replaced by new ones. Blooms continuously from early summer through fall. Best planted in masses of one color in beds, rock gardens, containers or hanging baskets. Loves high temperatures and sun.
Southern Heavenly Star (Oxypetalum caeruleum)
A South American member of the Milkweed Family that deserves to be better known. Likes sun, but will tolerate some shade. Plants grow upright, with neat stiff stems, producing intense glacier blue 1-inch diameter flowers from May through October. This exquisite color is retained until just before the blossoms fade, when they change to a pretty mauve. The velvety foliage is grayish green. Rumored to attract hummingbirds.
